About the Wedding Rings

Kith's wedding ring (picture below) originally belonged to Bill's mother, Edna (York) Gateley, who was born, raised and married in Breckenridge, Colorado.  The ring is inscribed "Made in Breckenridge" so undoubtedly the gold was, like Edna, a product of the Breckenridge district. (Note: in 2001, due to a severe wrist injury, the ring had to be cut to remove it from Kith's finger, but it was put back together with no problem.) The gold was probably from the Wire Patch Mine in Breckenridge, Summit County, Colorado.

The Website www.themineralgallery.com/goldroom.com.htm has lots of information about wire gold (click on the "gold" link and go down to MIN#G-8).

Bill's wedding ring originally belonged to Kith's father, Edward Ogden, and was given to Bill by Kith's mother, Doris Ogden.

The Tool Shed Project - almost everyone got into the act one way or another when the old necessary was converted into a tool shed
It was decided that Grand mommy's outhouse (purportedly not ever used - at least much) would make a great tool shed. Not all were totally supportive of this idea, but the locals came in strong that this would be just a fine tool shed if only it could be moved from the cabin to the cottage. Here we see Ned and Brian appraising the situation. Brothers are good for something! The new "tool shed" on its way to Chris's truck. In Chris's truck - ready to be driven to the cottage.

The rest of us had to walk back to the cottage... That is Bill bringing up the rear. The work crew congratulates themselves on a project well done.

Project Stonework
Well, Kithie and Brian pushed to get this project off the ground - putting stones over the cement blocks on the chimney. Wendy and Chris Mike had really done a lot of work on this prior to our arrival and had hoped that we could at least push it along a bit further. But no sooner had these two "novices" begun to scope out how this project was to proceed, then the two "experts" (Kyle and Toby) took over. Off the hook again...

A Sailing Adventure
The entire gang went to Fairhaven to sail on the Sara B and Titania - Chris and Sue's sailboats. Here some of the passengers hang out, waiting for the boats to show up. Here comes the Sarah B up to the dock, with crew Chris and Toby, and crew wantabes Jordon, Chelsea, Kyle. At the dock, Bill and Kith greet the crew. But before the adventure really began, we had to eat... Here comes Sue with the Titania. Captain Sue sailed the Titania with Polly, Cricket, Ned, Judi, and Kithie, while Captain Chris and Crewmate Toby took Kith, Bill, Kyle, Pam, Jordan, Chelsea, Brian and of course, Callie. (Did I get everyone???)

Frog Dinner preparation p Toby & Brian Chelsea & Bill We all showed up to eat lunch - 15 strong. Cousin Carl, Barb, and family were incredibly gracious and welcoming. Great food too! Chris and Sue built this "barn" over a 35 (?) foot steel hull that is eventually supposed to become a grand sailing boat. There is talk it might become a hot tub or gold fish pond instead... Just the tip of the hull - but enough to see this is not a minor project

Model-A Ford Cars and a Cushman motor scooter
I (Bill) owned a Model A like this except it was stripped down considerably. During my senior year in High School, I and several of my friends drove it up to Glen Cove on Pikes Peak to do some skiing.  (On our return, I learned that my mother had died...) We spent the summer following our marriage in Alma where Bill worked sporadically as an ore sorter (picking out good-looking pieces and discarding the rest).  He ended up with an infection in one of his fingers...).

Bill's dad furnished us with a rather elderly Model A 2-door sedan - the Hoopey - which we took with us on our return to Colorado Springs.  Unfortunately, it failed to start when a trip to the hospital to get Ned delivered was called for and taxi was called into service in its place.

The Hoopey was shortly replaced by a new Cushman Motor Scooter with a side car. The picture below shows the general style but not the elegance of ours...

Bill usually drove with Kith and Ned sitting in the sidecar. We even managed to carry various pieces of furniture with it!

All this was a bit unconventional, but the scooter served us well until he finally graduated from Colorado College and we moved to Julesburg for his first teaching job at the Julesburg High School.
