The 1910 U.S. Census for Colorado shows a Luther M. Gatley (ggu) and wife Caroline as living in the Falcon Precinct #20 in El Paso County. It says that Luther was born in Illinois, his father was born in Virginia and his mother in Tennessee.

In 1882,William J. Gateley (ggu) married Lizzie Lecort in Colorado Springs.

A tombstone in the Rifle, Colo,, cemetery says: GATELY-- Etta M.(ggm), 1867-1843 and Joseph H.(ggf) 1847-1927

The 1850 U.S. Iowa Census show John Gailley (gggf) in Mahaska County.

The 1860 U.S. Iowa Census show John J. Gately (gggf) in .Mahaska County.

James Hayes, now retired, lived for many years on the Des Moines River... He ran a ferry at Eddyville for a few months and has charge of a saw mill in East Des Moines Township during 1857.  The following year he ran the Gately ferry. ... 

 John J. Gately (gggf)  was a ship carpenter and well acquainted with all the  river men.  He says he has often heard Mrs. Gately (gggm) relate the following story. ...

A land sale recorded on 11/24/1835 was signed by John J. Gately and the same name is referenced within the document.

A land sale document on 2/27/1868 includes the name John J. Gaitley.

An 1870 document concerned with his estate refers to him as John J. Gateley.

The GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) marker on his grave in the "Old Section" of the Highland Cemetery in Eddyville says:  "John J. Gately, d. 9-25-1870, age 56 yr 11 mo 8 da, husband of M. Gately". "M." was Margaret Lewis, his second wife whom he married  January 22, 1852;  Sarah, b. 11-27-1812, d. 11-1853 was his first wife.

An 1874 estate document refers to him as John J. Gateley.  Another refers to him as John J. Gaitley.  

An 1876 document concerts the estate of John J. Gately.

An 1877 document refers to Leuther M. Gately (ggu) as plaintiff and Richard A. Gately (ggu) as a defendant
