The M.I.T. Adventure
| In the spring of 1949, Bill applied to the Massachusetts of Technology (M.I.T.) for admission as a graduate student in mathematics and also for a fellowship to help finance the venture. He received both, and after his father bought them a car (it looked pretty good, but it did have a problem or two) Bill, Kith and Ned took off to New York and the Lake (known in later years as Oakdene). During the summer, he worked the night shift in a canning plant in Redcreek. At the end of the summer, he moved to Boston to attend school and shortly found an apartment to rent where Kith and young Ned (about two years old) joined him. |
