3/21/99: from Jean Gilmore:

Dear Bill,
So sorry to hear you could not see any resemblance in the pictures. Colonel John Blair was father of George's wife. The two of them were among the first 30 patentees of Cambridge Patent between 1761-1763.

I found following reference: According to list of Residents of the Turner Patent, Washington County, NY in 1789, one of the residents was Robert GILMORE owned 88 acres Lot 83

Email from Jean Gilmore -- 11/4/00

Dear Bill,

I just returned from Washington Co., NT where I copied a deed dated 1774 in which Robert Gilmore sold to Benjamin Bois and his wife Mary Bois, for five shillings, Lot No. thirty of the first division of Cambridge Patent. Note: Lot #31 was owned by George Gilmore, my husband's ancestor. There was no wife mentioned, but I don't think your Robert was probably married at this time. Also there were two witnesses to the signing of the deed: George Gillmore and Hugh Kelso Blair. I will be happy to send a copy to you if this is something you do not have. I'm not sure I still have your address, so if you want a copy, please send your address.

Also, I have just learned of the existence of a will for Isabell Gilmore, 1755. I believe that she was the grandmother of Robert and George Gilmore. I have sent for a copy of the will, but don't expect to receive it for possibly as long as 2 months. She was living in Worcester, Worcester Co., MA, before the group left and founded Pelham, Hampshire Co., MA. I'm really excited about this find, and I will contact you with the details when I have the will in hand.

I did find mention in a history of Pelham that a Robert Gilmore fought in the French and Indian War.*

All for now,

Jean Gilmore

* Note: Jean had sent me an email on 2/26/00 in which she said:

I was just reviewing pages I copied from History of Pelham, Mass., and discovered a chapter on French & Indian Wars.  On page 342, middle of the page, I found:

Robert Gilmore enlisted for service at Crown Point, Oct 7, 1755, and William Oliver enlisted from Col. Jacob Wendalls regiment to service at the same place ..... Page 344 also includes Robert Gilmore in a list.
