April, 2000: Almost all of my YORK data has been entered. Note that three more YORK ancestors--each one a Robert--have surfaced.

A Photo Album has been added and quite a few photos put in to it. There appears to be an unlimited number of candidate photos, so the album will undoubtedly expand considerably in the future. Most of the photos will also be available from other pages in the web, but this is a convenient place to do some browsing.

The PLACES page has been modified.

The CD project is up and running. I sent one to Kithie by mail, but for some unknown reason it wouldn't work in California. I then sent a second one which worked fine.  Who knows... (the first probably was damaged en route).

March, 2000: This winter I decided to make copies of the OGW available on CDs which allows me to stop worrying about download times when deciding whether or not to include this picture or that map, features which greatly enhance the contents of the OGW. I have purchased and installed a CD recorder and obtained a supply of blank CDs (they are less than a dollar apiece, so it won't break the bank to send them out to one and all.) I plan on making yearly CD updates available for those who are interested.

The format of the individual person pages has been standardized to some extent. Each page start with a "Family Group Sheet" produced by Brother's Keeper (BK). This sheet contains the basic data for that person's family, including the person, the spouse and all of the children, a link to a BK listing of the person's descendants, and a link to the region on the page which contains additional information, pictures, etc. if such stuff exists.

In the descendant lists, the descendants of the ancestor child of the family will not be shown here, but a link to them is provided. This scheme allows each and every and cousin (including uncles and aunts) to be located on only one page in the entire OGW but to be reachable by simply clicking down through the descendant list links until you get to the proper family. In this manner additions and corrections to the non-ancestral relatives need be made to only one place in the OGW. Otherwise, for example, Alexander Gateley would appear in the descendant list for each and every Gateley and Ogden ancestor rather than just once in the list for Wilson and Katherine Gateley.

Please note that the descendant cousins included here are but a small drop in the bucket. For example, I have a published genealogy for Francis Peabody, a Gateley ancestor. This book contains some 1450 entries, each one of them either my ancestor or a cousin, but only a small fraction of these have made their way into the OGW. A similar statement can be made about Kith's ancestor Richard Willard. (Looking through these, I did discover a Peabody cousin married to a Willard cousin!  See (Some Common Cousins).)

At this time I believe that all of the Family Group Sheets and descendant lists have been entered. My plans for the future include some searching for more ancestors and information about known ancestors and--more importantly--organizing some of the existing pages which have been dealt with harshly over the past year or two and getting all of the miscellaneous information languishing in my file cabinet (including numerous photos) put into the OGW.

Note that links to all of the known ancestors are now on the two Family Tree pages. This allows you to go more directly to a particular ancestor rather than go through the Family Names pages (but in some cases there are interesting cousinly links on the latter).

January, 2000:  The Start page has been redesigned.  Work on adding family group reports to each individual page is on-going.

About using Brother's Keeper-- a genealogical database program which will be available on The Disk (a proposed dissemination of the OGW on CDs).

The page Pictures and Places has been renamed just Places and has been extensively changed.  Note that Oakdene is available from this page.
